For us farmers, winter is the traditional time of year when we fix all that is broken, and get everything ready for the new year. It is a time when we meet with family and friends, sharing a season of celebration and festivities.
As autumn turns to winter and the fields seem to disappear beneath the snow, so our elders often disappear from our functions, not able to attend because of the inclement weather. Let us not forget them, for they are the strength upon which we stand. For truly, without them, we would not be.
Let us not forget to reach out to them; a phone call, a text, even a short visit. Better yet, show up with coffee and doughnuts, and listen to all the wonderful stories of yesteryear!
Let us never fall to the saying: The community should do this, or the community should do that.
Remember: We are the community!
