Power And Popularity vs Walking The Sacred Road

I have had some people come to me and ask how to walk the Sacred Road, and they have stayed long enough for me to teach them, and give them a good start. Then they come back in a year or so, to tell me that it did not work, that they have not become a Medicine Man, nor get any visions from heaven. After questioning why they are so upset, they reveal the true nature of their hearts, that they want to be a Medicine Man so they can be special, so they can be respected. Gitchi Manitou knows all our hearts, and knows if we want to be special, and will not give his power to those who are so selfish. The powers of the Great Manitou are entrusted only to those who will serve quietly, those who just want to help others, those who will refuse a reward, those who will refuse to be acknowledged as the person doing this great deed! The heavens will test us, and all the Manitou will watch us. They will only assist those who are humble servants of their fellow man.

There are also those who come and learn, and become a great asset to their people. Many times, people are surprised to find out who it is that has been chosen by Father, because the heavens have seen into his heart, and have seen that he is pure, only wanting to help, giving of himself to others. This is the mark of a true Medicine Man, to give all to his people, holding nothing back, neither in his heart, nor in his hands.
