About Me

Samuel Carey: When I was 17, my grandfather died of cirrhosis of the liver caused by a severe genetic disorder called Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. At that time, this rare disorder was, and in many ways still is, in its infancy as far as research and treatment are concerned. After my grandfather died, I was taken to the hospital to undergo several blood tests and found that I too had Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. This was one of the factors which started me on my quest to help people who were suffering.
